Not far from Higher Twitchen is Heddons Mouth. Situated on the dramatic North Devon coast between Combe Martin and Lynton this beautiful rocky cove is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest.
There is a lovely, and not too strenuous walk down to the beach and back up the other side of the river. The River Heddon has carved a deep valley which is a dramatic backdrop to the pebble beach. You will also find a restored 19th-century lime kiln on the beach.
Heddon Valley is a haven for wildlife including otters and the rare high brown fritillary butterfly. And at the end of your walk why not enjoy lunch at The Hunter’s Inn?
